Leon Siegel, MD

Dr. Leon Siegel is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive and robotic abdominal surgeries. He completed a minimally invasive and bariatric surgical fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Minimally invasive surgery, which focuses on performing operations through small incisions, decreases post-operative pain, leads to a faster recovery and minimizes the risks of common complications, such as infections. Some of the common surgical diseases Dr. Siegel treats include those of the gallbladder and appendix, various types of hernias, as well as diseases of the stomach and esophagus, with an emphasis on hiatal hernia/anti-reflux surgery. He did a general surgery residency at SUNY Downstate and Kings County Medical Centers in Brooklyn, NY after completing medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a member of several honor societies including Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha, that highlight excellence during undergraduate and medical training.

Dr. Siegel is a strong advocate of treating obesity as a disease, one with serious clinical manifestations. Obesity is not a choice, but an ailment resulting from multiple factors, including genetics, as well as societal, environmental and behavioral factors. Dr. Siegel enjoys working with patients as they undergo their weight-loss journey and seeing them achieve their long-term weight-loss and comorbidity goals. He is a strong believer that health should not be judged by the numbers on a scale, but on how excess weight affects an individual's everyday life. Dr. Siegel and his team work with each patient to maximize weight loss following surgery and to discuss what improvements they can expect with such comorbidities as back/joint pain, high blood pressure and diabetes after bariatric surgery.
